  • Raised in Winnetka, Illinois. Went to New Trier High School. B.A. in math from Pomona College.
  • Thinking I wanted to be a professional golfer, I took some time after college to play some golf.
  • Found golf was no longer fun, but hard work.
  • Started work at Washington National Insurance Company in the actuarial department.
  • Used calculator to figure out cash value of insurance policies.  Took and passed seven courses before realizing I no longer wanted to be an actuary either.
  • Then Quaker Oats where I programmed a Royal McBee computer to figure out the price of Full of Pep Feed for cattle.
  • If not for Quaker, I probably would not have met and married my husband.
  • After marriage and three children, Linda, Jim and Patty, I began working at Oak Terrace School as an aide. Seeing that the school didn’t have a computer, I bought my Radio Shack Model III to school every day for learning and fun.
  • Created a computer lab; taught 400 children a week math and computers for a few years.
  • Next I became a manager of The Software Tree, a computer software, hardware and teaching high tech store in Hubbard Woods.
  • Following that, I started as treasurer and secretary of Howard Displays, Inc., my husband’s exhibit house.
  • Children married and we have four grandsons, Steven, Andy, Stirling and Finlay.
